Election Day Voting Places Open for Provincial By-Election in Lethbridge-West

EDMONTON – Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer, Gordon McClure, confirms voting places for the Lethbridge-West by-election are now open and will remain open until 8:00pm.
Voter Eligibility
Canadian citizens who are at least 18 years of age or older on Election Day are eligible to vote if they are an ordinary resident of Lethbridge-West. If you are uncertain if you reside in Lethbridge-West, check “Where Do I Vote” on the Elections Alberta website to determine if it is your electoral division.
Where to Vote
Electors voting today must visit their assigned voting location to cast their ballot. Electors can find their assigned voting location and access additional voting information at www.elections.ab.ca (click on “Where Do I Vote?”) or contact 1.877.422.VOTE (8683).
Voter Identification
To vote in the Lethbridge-West by-election, electors are required to prove their identity and current physical address. There are several ways to do this, including:
- Providing one piece of Government-issued photo ID, including the voter’s full name, current physical address, and a photo.
- Providing two pieces of ID, both containing the voter’s full name and one that lists their current physical address.
- Having another registered elector with identification who resides in their voting area vouch for them.
- Having an authorized signatory complete an attestation form.
- More than 50 different types of identification have been authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer to be used as identification to vote. Visit elections.ab.ca/voters/id-required-to-vote for a full list.
Election Night Results
The count of ballots will commence once voting closes at 8:00pm, and unofficial results will be shared at results.elections.ab.ca as they become available. Hand counts will be completed for all special ballot, advance voting, Election Day, and mobile voting places.
Election Day voting places will be reported by voting area.
All Advance voting and mobile voting will be reported by voting place.
Special ballot votes will be reported by the location of the count:
- Returning Office: all ballots cast in person or dropped off at the returning office in Lethbridge-West.
- Elections Alberta: All ballots returned by mail, cast in person, or dropped off at Elections Alberta’s head office in Edmonton.
Announcement of Official Results
In the days following Election Day, returning office staff review the materials from the unofficial count to verify results. These confirmations are then reported as official results and released to the public, with the winning candidate official declared. This is known as the Official Announcement of the Results and is legislated to take place on the tenth day after Election Day, which is Saturday, December 28, 2024.
